March 31, 2001

Everyone is resting (except me).  All are doing well.

April 1, 2001

Still in her stall as the weather is rainy.  Jemma had her first visitors.  She is very friendly.  She is 29" tall.

April 3, 2001 Going outside for the first time.  Jemma is independent.  Wants to explore on her own and not follow her mother.  Missy follows Jemma everywhere.  She even stands still over Jemma as she lays down to take a nap.

April 6, 2001 Jemma is one week old.
April 11, 2001 Had Missy and Jemma outside in the evening to graze.  Noticed how tall Jemma has gotten.  Seems she grew 2".  She is all legs.

April 13, 2001

Now two weeks old, Jemma has two upper and two lower teeth.  She is nibbling at grain, hay and grass.  The most amazing part is that Missy shares her grain - really excellent mother!  Finally Jemma's great-grandparents got to meet her!

April 14, 2001

Jemma and Missy were out in the pasture all day.  Here are some new pictures.

Missy & Jemma Standing

April 16, 2001 Jemma and Missy were inside today due to cold, wet weather.  After work I took them outside to graze.  Jemma stays within 20 feet of her mother.  I wonder how long it will be until she starts wandering away?  I have already begun her training.  After turn out I brushed Jemma and picked her feet.  She does pretty good!  Gave Jemma a very small piece of a 'Stud Muffin' treat.  She like it!
April 21, 2001 Jemma and Missy were out in the pasture today in the rain.  Neither seemed to mind the rain.  After a bit Jemma was seen using Missy as an umbrella!  Jemma is growing so fast.  Such a sweet filly and so much like her mother.  Noticed that Jemma got her first boo boo.  Some hair is scraped off her face near the top right of her stripe.  It will grow back in.

April 28-29, 2001 Jemma is now 4 weeks old.  Missy's 8th birthday is April 30.  Wow time flies.  Just cannot seem to take enough pictures.  I love sitting at the barn and just watching them.  Today, they were in the field and got excited when a nearby child was enjoying his new swing set.  Both Mommy & Baby were running around the pasture.

Noticed Jemma has 2 more teeth on the bottom.  She is growing SO fast!

May 13, 2001

Jemma is now 6 weeks old.  She is getting tall, now 41".  So far growing even on the front and back.  She now has 4 teeth on the bottom and 4 teeth on the top.  She is eating more grass and hay daily.  She also picks at some grain.  I must also admit to giving her a treat every once in a while.....

May 28, 2001

Jemma is now almost 2 months old.  She is growing fast and has such a personality.  She is beginning to lose the baby hair on her face.  She also is halter broke and we are working on leadline training. She is doing very well.  I must admit to hand feeding her some carrot bits.  Hand feeding a baby encourages nipping.  So I will be aware.  Jemma is very independent from her mother.  She quite often takes off running when in the pasture or out hand grazing.  I still am able to leave her roam freely.  She still comes when Missy calls.  She is such a joy !!

March 30, 2002 Jemma is 1 year old today.  I cannot believe it has been a year already!  She is growing up so nice.  Staying pretty even, front and back.  She does have a little belly, but we are working that off.  She is such a gem!

June 1, 2002 Jemma is starting training.  This is the first time she will be at a different farm than her mother.
